Compliant window restrictors
September 2016

ROTO is offering a new range of restrictors for aluminium windows to comply with BS EN 13126 part 5/6.

“More and more aluminium fabricators across Europe are being asked to prove that their restrictors meet the standard”, said Roto UK Business Development Manager Vesa Nenye. “The Roto restrictors that form part of our AL hardware system have been tested and certified, and we can provide the documentation fabricators need to satisfy contractors’ requirements”.

The range includes adjustable, key-locking versions on which the angle of opening can be set. The key-locking function allows authorised persons, such as maintenance engineers, to unlock the restrictor and open the window further for maintenance or cleaning.

This type restrictor has recently been fitted to windows on The Grid, a brand new office building in Essen, Germany that serves as the headquarters of DB Schenker, the logistics subsidiary of the Deutsche Bahn rail network.

Roto was commissioned to provide a hardware specification for 1,000 inward-opening aluminium casements, some of which are 3,800mm high with a sash loading of 140 kg.

“On this building, the ceiling height windows are restricted to 120mm of opening”, explained Vesa. “This way they can be sure that employees don’t have any accidents. You can see why building specifiers and contractors need to be sure that restrictors are fully tested and compliant with standards”.
