Developing and Protecting CAB
September 2016

CAB ceo, Justin Ratcliffe highlights the importance that the Association attaches to protecting the use of its logo

While we eagerly await the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement it is clear, from speaking to a wide variety of CAB members across the Association that September 2016 is very much seeing a return to ‘business as usual’. This only adds weight to the underlying confidence in the aluminium in building sector that I reported in August with 60% net balance of CAB members (Q2) forecasting growth in Q3. CAB itself can confirm the above with new members committed to joining in the coming weeks and months – however, it is becoming increasingly apparent that we need to protect both our members and the integrity of the Association more than ever before.
CAB Logo Misuse

We always welcome new members to the Association and make a point of doing our best to ensure that they are maximising their membership benefits, one of which is very obviously utilising the CAB. However, sadly we are also seeing an increasing misuse of logos including our own. The Association has acted swiftly twice in recent months to ensure that rogue use of our logo was dealt with.

CAB takes the issue of a sector company using our logo without permission very seriously. If you believe a firm is not a CAB member and is using our logo under false pretences, the first thing to do is check whether the firm really is in CAB using our website www.c-a-b.org.uk/members.

If you can find no record of the company being a current member then we would be very grateful if you could alert us to the fact by emailing us julie.harley@c-a-b.org.uk. CAB will then look into the matter further, but please be aware that you may be contacted to provide documentary evidence to substantiate your claim. In certain cases we may refer the investigation on to the local Trading Standards Authority for enforcement assistance. Please note that your details will be held in the strictest confidence and will not be divulged to any third party such as Trading Standards or the building firm concerned, without your prior permission.

CAB Regional Meeting – Mercedes Benz World, Weybridge 12 October 2016

We are delighted to announce a further speaker for our Regional Members’ Meeting at Mercedes Benz World in Weybridge, Surrey on 12 October. John Fillingham, Anchor Risk Management & Anchor Training will highlight some of the challenges SME's in our sector face when trying to compete for work and comply with safety related standards and legislation. His presentation is entitled: ‘Winning Work in 2016 and beyond - A focus on the Health & Safety issues being presented in PQQ’s’

John will consider the issues being presented in PQQ’s, specifically:

· What is the Client looking for?
· What is not enough – what is too much?
· PQQ’s and associated accredited bodies
· PQQ’s going forward?

The topic highlights our drive to develop further the number of learning and training opportunities for members within their CAB membership package. Already our Contractual Awareness seminars in 2016 have had a 100% attendance rate at venues around the UK and we continue to look at offering even more training for members in the year ahead.

The meeting will also receive an overview of the latest state of the market information from Professor Noble Francis, Economics Director, Construction Products Association.

The event has already attracted a wide spectrum of more than 100 members and guests and if you are interested in knowing more about the event please contact me at justin.ratcliffe@c-a-b.org.uk or ring the CAB office on 01453 828851.
