Aluminium window gains a big fan
October 2016

The AA720 tilturn aluminium window from KAWNEER has helped its curtain walling pass a CWCT Sequence B test.

The CWCT (Centre for Window and Cladding Technology) test was being carried out by Wintech on a 6300mm x 8000mm high sample size of Kawneer’s AA100 and AA100 HI aluminium curtain wall system (report number DPP/R16140).

Kawneer usually tests all of its curtain wall systems to CWCT with an outward-opening window incorporated into them as these can offer better weather sealing during the dynamic aero engine test, where, as well as spraying the screen with water (3.4ltr/m²/min), an aeroplane engine is used to apply a high positive pressure on the test screen. An open-out window performs better as the pressure forces the weather gaskets on the window to compress, providing an optimum seal.

However, on this occasion, Kawneer had so much faith in its inward-opening 1326mm x 1601mm high AA720 HI Reflex tilturn window that it was incorporated into the screen for the test .and helped the curtain walling pass with flying colours. The pressure on the screen was also raised to 3600 Pa (approximately 160mph) as part of the safety testing and again, the test was passed without any issues.
