Sustainability award
Specialist facade contractor Alumet collected the ‘Environment: Recycling and Sustainability Award’ from Journalist and broadcaster Andrew Neil at the recent Birmingham Post Business Awards.
The judges recognised Alumet's pro-active approach to sustainability, which included providing environmental training to all members of staff, recycling food waste via onsite compost bins and the transformation of an area of wasteland into a wildlife garden, which was opened by TV Botanist David Bellamy OBE at the company's Open Day.
The Alumet Group was also presented with the Green Manufacturer of the Year Award on November 1 at The Ricoh Arena.
In front of a range of manufacturing businesses at the first Made in the Midlands Awards Gala, the Warwickshire based organisation collected the award from Michael Portillo, fighting off stiff competition from the likes of Denso Manufacturing and Synseal Extrusions.
The specialist facade company officially opened its new Renewable Technologies Centre in 2011, enabling it to conduct training, research and development into future renewable technology solutions. Alumet's standards have recently been validated with both ISO 14001 and Investors in Excellence accreditations.
The judges said: “Alumet is not just doing what it thinks are the right things, but using green technologies to grow its business. The company has demonstrated the greatest commitment, through its products and processes, to forging a low carbon manufacturing future for the Midlands.”
Marketing manager Rob Henson said: “It is a privilege to be named Green Manufacturer of the Year. We have been a Midlands based company since establishment 20 years ago and are very proud to be leading the way for other businesses in the region. The award is great recognition for the hard work of our team.”
