Guests were given a first-hand view of how windows and doors are tested at an open event held by ERC Testing at its Leigh, Lancashire base this week.
As manufacturers continue to rise to the challenge of ever more stringent specifications in areas such as security, weather-resistance and energy rating, the role of product testing is becoming more and more relevant in the industry.
ERC Testing Ltd. was formally set up in late 2015 and kitted out during early 2016 to facilitate testing of windows, doors and safety glass. The company has tested a variety of PVC-U and aluminium doors and windows since then, with tests including weather testing (air, wind & water), security testing to PAS 24: 2016, and other operation tests. Safety glass testing may include impact testing (EN 12600), fragmentation testing (EN 12150-1) and 4-point bend testing EN 1288-3).
Pictured: guests see for themselves how a laminated glass panel is tested for its resistance to impact.
