Making the grade in the student accommodation sector
May 2017

Combining a robust design, excellent acoustic properties and some of the lowest U-values available on the UK market, Senior Architectural Systems’ innovative PURe® range of aluminium windows has been specified for use on several new projects in the student accommodation sector.

One of the largest contracts to feature Senior’s PURe® aluminium windows is The Courtyard scheme at the University of Hull.  Comprising five separate blocks based around two central courtyards, the development has been designed by GSS Architecture and offers a range of facilities in addition to high-specification student accommodation. The extensive fenestration package, which was installed by Glass and Framing Solutions (GFS) also features Senior’s thermally efficient SF52 aluminium curtain walling.

Ideally suited to meeting the various demands for the student accommodation market, Senior’s PURe® aluminium windows are competitively priced and yet boast exceptional thermal efficiency that can help reduce the overall environmental impact of the build and contribute to a significant reduction in heating costs.  The innovative use of expanded polyurethane foam (PUR) to give the PURe® range its enhanced thermal barrier also contributes to the system’s improved acoustic performance.

As well as offering slim sightlines to create bright and airy interiors, aluminium significantly outperforms other types of framing material in terms of its durability to provide a low-maintenance solution that is both safe and secure.
Awarded a UK patent for its innovative design, the PURe® aluminium system features an enhanced thermal barrier manufactured from expanded polyurethane foam (PUR) and has the potential to achieve U-values as low as 0.71W/m2 K when calculated as a commercial CEN standard window.  The range also now includes the PURe® aluminium door, available as folding and sliding options, and which can provide U-values as low as 0.93W/m2 K when calculated as a CEN standard door.
