Ordnance Survey ventilated

Ordnance Survey began work on their its Southampton head office in April 2009. Located alongside the busy M271 the building will be a flagship corporate building.

Southampton has been the home of the agency for over 160 years and plan to vacate their existing offices in Maybush in late 2010. Opened by the Queen in 1969 the existing Romsey Road premises has seen considerable change in mapping technology, then employing some 3,000 staff, the staff now total 1,100 with very different needs.

The new building will use some of the latest technology to ensure low-energy usage including ground source heat pumps for heating and cooling. One of the main features of the building is an imposing brick facade which is designed to act as an ‘acoustic buffer’ to reduce motorway noise from entering the office environment.

To ensure office staff have the most comfortable environments natural ventilation solutions provider SE Controls have supplied and commissioned 480 actuators in various zones across the building. Linked into the building management system, these soft close ‘TGCO 24 30’ operators provide silent operation with minimal maintenance. Installed and controlled in banks of six windows, the system ensures a healthy and naturally ventilated workspace for office staff.
