Debar puts £500,000 into
manufacturing move
March 2018

Debar Bi-fold Hardware this week celebrated its £500,000 move into in-house manufacturing with the official opening of its new 42,000 sq ft HQ and factory in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

The company, which had previously bought-in components working from 22,000sq ft spread across five separate units, is now making its own hinges, rollers and guides in-house for the first time.

The diversification into manufacturing has required not only significant investment, but the implementation of a planned growth strategy, Managing Director Graham Fawthrop, pictured in the new factory, told guests at the launch. With support from the Regional Development Fund, the company is now able to design and manufactures many of its own bi-fold door hardware components in the UK, rather than sourcing from overseas.

He said: “There has been a lot of hard work and effort put in by all members of the Debar team to reach the point we have today. The move to our new premises has provided a great opportunity to celebrate everyone’s involvement and to show our customers how our investment has paid off.

“We look forward to working in close partnership with our customers and suppliers to constantly evolve as a business, to meet and exceed the requirements of our marketplace.

Our new internal manufacturing capabilities ensure we are well placed to be at the forefront of product development within the bi-fold hardware sector and we intend to capitalise on our investment to secure significant growth for the future”.

He added that the company increased sales from £3.6million in 2016 to£6million last year and is forecasting further growth to £9mllion in its new factory this year.

The new facility was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Abid Hussain, who told guests: “It pleases me greatly to hear that Debar are able to attract a great workforce from the Bradford area and we know that Debar will grow from their current workforce of 54, now that they are investing in manufacturing in Bradford. Bradford City council and its agencies have helped Debar every step of the way, with even Bradford University assisting with the training of their Technical Manager. I wish them continued success.”
