Engagement is key to success for CAB
June 2016

Over 220 members and guests attended the 22nd CAB Annual Dinner at the Forest of Arden Hotel on 23 June, EU Referendum Day. The evening which raised £2500 for CRASH was preceded by a golf day which attracted a record 107 entries.

Presentations by CAB President, Mo Panam and the CAB CEO focused on CAB’s successful year with high member engagement being key. A number of dynamic events had taken over the previous 12 months including a sellout Architectural River Cruise on the Thames with presentations by an array of top International Architects. A warm welcome was extended to CAB’s 12 new members since the start of 2016, the majority of whom were present at the Dinner: Adshead Ratcliffe & Co; AGC Glass UK; Alchemy Architectural Aluminium Systems; Alimatic Architectural Aluminium Systems; Arkay Windows; Dyer Environmental Controls; IDF Aluminium; NorDan Aluminium; Norwich Aluminium; Ridgeway Glazing; Sherwin-Williams Diversified Brands and Vulcan Aluminium.

While the EU Referendum result was still to be announced it was emphasised that whatever the result, buildings would need to meet standards and whether these were European, National or International in the future, CAB and its Technical team were well prepared to both defend and promote member interests. A proactive programme of launching new Guidance Notes was best highlighted in the last 12 months by the new Note on the ‘Building Regulation ‘Q’: Security for New Houses’. CAB had also launched a new ‘Standards Watch’ for the sector designed to keep members right up to date with any changes to Standards.

Looking to the future CAB was continuing its popular Contractual Awareness Training workshops and seminars and these were being supplemented by specialist Marketing and Health & Safety workshops to create a strong programme of added value member activities. CAB also continued to lead on a number of key issues such as Responsible Sourcing within the sector, with CAB’s Technical Director, Justin Furness sitting on the Technical Committee of the influential worldwide Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) of whom CAB were members.

Finally it was revealed that the next major Regional Members’ event would take place on Wednesday 12 October at Mercedes Benz World in Weybridge, Surrey.
