Set the controls for the heart of the sun
The presentation is designed to help architects and specifiers gain a clearer understanding of how modern external sun control systems work, how to decide which type of system works best for a specific building, and how new technology has created systems that are more flexible and more intelligent than ever before. Architects and other construction professionals are now able to request a presentation from Hunter Douglas, which will count towards their individual CPD qualifying requirement. Andrew Lee, general manager of Hunter Douglas Sun Control & Facades in the UK and Ireland, said: “Sun control is now more important than ever, so it’s essential that we get it right. “This is partly due to the fact that tighter regulations on sustainable building and carbon emissions have meant our buildings are now much warmer internally, so we need to control the heat and glare of the sun much better. In turn, this will reduce our reliance on things like mechanical air-cooling systems – thus achieving even greater sustainability.” He said that the current wide choice of sun control systems often created confusion or misunderstanding, which is why the CPD presentation was so useful. The new RIBA CPD presentation focuses on the latest and most relevant types of sun control for today’s building projects. It splits sun control into four main categories – sun louvres, aerofins, shutters and bespoke sun control – explaining the situations where each is best suited, the variety of materials they are made from, methods of installation, motorisation and how modern sun control not only improves internal comfort but also aids external aesthetics. The presentation is accompanied by a full-colour handout brochure, which is also available as an electronic pdf document. ribacpd@hunterdouglas.co.uk
