Highest ever entries to fifth annual awards

The Simon Sainsbury Centre at Cambridge Judge Business School has been voted overall winner in the fifth annual Schueco Excellence Awards for Design and Innovation.

This year, the Awards attracted the highest ever number of submissions: 73 companies submitted 159 entries spread over the ten different Award categories.

The overall winner, also winner in the Education category, is a £22 million facility, which provides a hub for post-graduate and executive business education, and is also on track to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating for sustainability.

Schueco systems employed comprise FW 50+ and FW 50+ SG curtain walling; AWS 70.HI and AWS 70 windows; AWS 114 SG TipTronic controlled top-hung vents; FW 50+ hi-capped curtain walling mullion; and FW 50+ rooflights.

This year, for the first time, the judges gave an Overall Commendation Award, which was won by the latest addition to the LAMDA complex in London, and was also voted the winner in the Cultural Building Category.

The winners in the other Award categories were: WestQuay Watermark, Southampton (Commercial Building); 30 Old Street, London (Refurbishment Project); Omagh Hospital & Primary Care Complex, Co Tyrone (Health Building); Optima Building, London (Steel Project); Highgate House, London (Individual House); Vaulted House, Dublin (Individual House Improvement); Blows Yard, London (Residential Development); Dane Architectural (Specialist Contractor).

There were five further commendations – Fenman House, London (Residential Development category); Black Ridge House, London (Individual House Improvement category); Garden Museum, London (Cultural Building category); Marlborough Primary School, London (Education Building category); and Appleton Tower, Edinburgh (Refurbishment Project category).
