‘Mini Manhattan’ – made in Holland, built in London
July 2017

Hueck has supplied its products for a project known as East London’s ‘Mini Manhattan’.

London City Island, a development in Canning Town, combines commercial and residential buildings and, within a few years, will also be home to the English National Ballet and the London Film School.

The 12-acre island is funded by Irish billionaire Sean Mulryan, with buildings designed by Glen Howells Architects and construction by Ballymore Developments.

Hueck UK has supplied its profile for most of the windows and doors installed in the 1,700 apartments.

Managing Director Leon Friend said: “London City Island is a modern, luxury development that demands quality products and our systems are designed to achieve superior aesthetics and performance. Large floor to ceiling windows transcend the barriers between inside and outside to offer spectacular city views and bring in the tropical gardens outside.”

Most of the units making up the residential towers were prefabricated in a factory in Holland and shipped to the UK. Leon predicts many future projects will adopt this method, particularly developments in the city, where lack of space is a continuous issue for builders.
