CAB Members’ Meeting to focus on Market Forecasts
July 2016

CAB is delighted to confirm that Professor Noble Francis, Economics Director, Construction Products Association will speak at the next Members’ event at Mercedes Benz World, Weybridge on 12 October, on the UK Construction industry following Brexit.

CAB, like many other Associations, has called on government to help create stability in the economy and welcomed the recent announcements about a commitment to house building and re-confirmation about a number of infrastructure projects around the UK. While there are differing views amongst leading economists and a number of concerns expressed about a possible slow down, it would seem sensible to await more formal announcements when government economic data and forecasts have been made available in the late Summer/early Autumn.

What is becoming increasingly apparent though, from a number of leading commentators, is that some sort of fiscal stimulus and increased government expenditure will be required to boost the construction industry. The biggest current concern is the prospect of delays in construction projects which would lead to a lack of visible pipeline for the future.
On an upbeat note Contractors have been re-assured about the future of thousands of EU builders currently working in construction. The government said, ‘When we do leave the EU, we fully expect that the legal status of EU Nationals living in the UK, and that of UK Nationals in EU member states, will be properly protected.’

The Regional Meeting is being held at Mercedes Benz World, Weybridge, Surrey. This impressive, purpose-built events venue boasts three floors of interactive exhibits along with numerous displays of Mercedes Benz road and racing cars, both current and classic. Overlooking their own race tracks and set within the famous Brooklands motor racing circuit, the venue is very accessible just off junctions 10 or 11 of the M25.
