Straight Sliding 307 door hardware from P C HENDERSON has been specified for the main access door to an elephant house at Skandavale Monastery in Carmarthen, Wales.

The most famous resident of the monastery’s animal sanctuary is Valli, a three-tonne Sri Lankan elephant who lives in a purpose built elephant house. But just five year after it was built, the track on the 3.9m x 3.2m sliding access door – based on another make of hardware – collapsed under the force of Valli using her head and trunk to open it.

The door itself weighs 500kg but due to the extra force being used, Henderson specified its Straight Sliding 307 system, which can cater for doors weighing up to four times that weight.

P C Henderson’s Straight Sliding system is available in five different ranges to cater for maximum door weights of between 150kg and 2000kg. The system is available for wooden and metal doors and allows doors to slide to one or both sides and are also suitable to cover any width of opening.
