Curves of aluminium and glass
December 2016

AGC GLASS and CAREY GLASS have played an intrinsic role in the creation of Canaletto, a 31-storey waterside residential tower, complete with underground parking, swimming pool, gym, cinema, restaurant, and a rooftop terrace, in the increasingly popular area on London’s City Road around Tech City.

The building is designed with a curving facade of aluminium and glass divided into a series of three to five-storey clusters, conceived as ‘individual neighbourhoods in the sky’. Each of the 190 apartments has a balcony or terrace within the big bends that encircle the building, all offering views over the City of London to the south and the basin waterways to the north.

The apartments have floor-to-ceiling windows for which AGC Energy NT solar control glass was specified due to its neutral appearance, solar control and thermal insulation properties, as well as its suitability for curved glazing. Over 4000m2 of double glazing units were fabricated by Carey Glass International and installed by façade specialists, Ardmore.

The toughenable counterpart to Energy N, Energy NT is a soft-coated glass with enhanced solar protection and thermal insulation, while letting in the maximum amount of natural daylight.

Completed in 2015, Canaletto tower offers contemporary living space both inside and out setting new architectural standards for future high-rise residential developments in London.
