Working in parallel
According to Dave Simms, ATB’s commercial manager, the new Taurus Max Parallel Opener and Fixed Light Suite reflects a growing need for aluminium products that meet the more demanding specification of commercial buildings rather than domestic standards. He said: “Cotswold was the clear choice for this pioneering development as it is currently the only hardware manufacturer with a parallel opening stay tested to the latest security standard.” Cotswold’s Parallel Opening Hinge mechanism provides both a safety feature and allows greater ventilation than a standard casement, making it ideal for commercial buildings such as offices, schools and hospitals where improved air exchange is especially important. In addition, the opening is restricted to 100mm, which increases security when the window is open – a particularly relevant feature for school buildings. Apart from enhancing ventilation through increased airflow around the frame, Cotswold’s new stay closes inline, rather than being offset like other manufacturers’ parallel opening products. This means it will fit into most standard heavy-duty profiles, which increases the choice of profiles for window companies, and saves the cost of a new extrusion for systems houses. Also, unlike standard friction stays there is no restriction on window size – additional Parallel Opening Stays can simply be fitted as required. Furthermore, the shape of the building’s façade can be maintained when using the Stay, even when the windows are open, and the hinge mechanism is fully concealed when the sash is closed.
