Aluminium manufacturer/installer AB GLASS has been awarded a £1.4 million contract by Kier Construction to complete works at a development in Swansea for the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD).

AB Glass, based in Swansea, has been enlisted to install AA100 curtain wall screens, AA540 windows and doors, and AA190 doors. Kier has been appointed by the university to deliver the first phase of its new £300 million Swansea Waterfront Innovation Quarter, located in the city's SA1 area.

Design work by AB Glass began in February, with the start date for works on the new waterside campus planned for early May.

Alan Brayley, managing director at AB Glass, (pictured) said: "This new university campus adds to what is a vibrant area of Swansea and we are very proud to be a part of it through our partnership with Kier. We have worked with the firm on other education projects, including the Callywith College project in Cornwall most recently. Our continuing collaboration with Kier is therefore testament to the expertise and high quality service we are able to deliver on such significant projects."

Jason Taylor, operations director at Kier Construction, replied: "Kier has a long-term working relationship with AB Glass, based on strong teamwork and commitment, which will support the successful delivery of this project and we will work together to maximise learning and development of the local workforce with employment opportunities."

The education sector is a growing area of business for AB Glass. The company has been contracted to complete many projects over recent years, including: Ysgol Bae Baglan, Neath Port Talbot; Penyrheol School, Swansea; Ynysboeth Community Primary, Mountain Ash; UWIC Hub, Cardiff; Birdwell School, Long Ashton, Bristol; Callywith College, Cornwall; Fusion 1, Bournemouth University; and Brougham Hayes Student Accommodation, Bath.
