GGF proves equality credentials
The Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) has achieved the Committed2Equality Gold Standard, with a score of 96%.
In a letter to the GGF, the chief executive officer of the Equality Accreditation Services, Vivienne Duke, said: “This is an outstanding achievement, particularly for a first accreditation, and myself and our Chairman, Sam Allan, send our sincere congratulations.”
New equality legislation places a stronger emphasis on the private sector businesses to prove that they are fair and equal – particularly when tendering for public sector contracts. Therefore, it is becoming increasingly important for organisations like the GGF to lead by example.
Working closely with its external equality consultant, Terri Connor, the GGF has implemented an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Programme that enables them to measure their current equality status and continually monitor, evaluate and improve their processes and procedures to deliver their equality objectives.
By going through this process they will also be better positioned to advise and assist their member businesses and suppliers on what is required to meet the Single Equality Bill duties on procurement.
Terri Connor said: “For a programme like this to be effective, it is important that an organisation demonstrates commitment from the very top. It was obvious from the very start that this was the case with the executives demonstrating a positive approach to embedding equality and diversity good practice throughout their organisation.”
Nigel Rees, GGF’s chief executive, said: “The GGF likes to lead by example, and this a case in point. We are proud to have achieved such a high score, but since ongoing evidence of good practice is required to retain this standard, myself, Terri and the rest of team will work hard to win the other 4%!
