Parts L and F CPDs

Advice to architects and specifiers on the impact of the new Documents L and F of the 2010 Building Regulations on glazed aluminium facades and ventilation respectively is contained in two new RIBA-approved CPDs from architectural aluminium systems supplier Kawneer.

The CPD on Approved Document L 2010 and Scottish Building Standards Part 6 2010 (Impact on Glazed Aluminium Facades) has been designed to help specifiers understand the revisions to and different emphasis of the documents, their impact on existing and new buildings, and the different approaches now required for these.

It details transitional arrangements and at what stage they will apply to a wide variety of projects, as well as what the new requirements are and how they can be achieved using measures such as the Window Energy Rating system, Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) 2009 or Simplified Building Energy Model (SBEM).

The CPD on Approved Document F 2010 (Means of Ventilation) focuses particularly on the different approaches now required between specifying for dwellings and for buildings other than dwellings.

It compares the different ventilation strategies and systems required to achieve optimum ventilation rates and maintaining a healthy air supply (occupants’ health being a key driver) and the role replacement windows can play in this.

The two new CPDs can be booked online at www.kawneer.co.uk
