Maritime peak

Unitised curtain walling from Kawneer has been used on two apartment towers that are the high point of the groundbreaking Chatham Maritime development in Kent.

Some 6,500m² of Kawneer’s AA201 unitised curtain walling was installed on the towers by approved sub-contractor Architectural Glazed Facades (AGF) for main contractor Ardmore Construction.

AGF also installed Kawneer’s AA110 65mm curtain walling on the ground floor and penthouse elements and AA603 tilt slide doors on the penthouses ( www.kawneer.co.uk/pr/cm).

The off-site system was supplied in pre-assembled panels to the respective floors of the buildings, then lifted into place using a spider crane situated on the floor above, negating the need for scaffolding that a traditional stick system of curtain walling requires.

The Quays is a spectacular landmark residential project, consisting of 332 apartments in two striking glass towers of 17 and 21 storeys and a five-storey wharf. It is supported by extensive leisure and retail facilities, providing a high-quality mixed-use scheme on the south side of Basin One, overlooking the marina. KDS Associates, employed by Ardmore, worked up the external design concept by Wilkinson Eyre.
