Strong contractor support

 

CAB’s latest mini-conference ‘Commitment to supply chains’, not only brought together a record number of companies but also an enthusiastic response from leading sector speakers who endorsed CAB’s role in supporting closer links within the supply chain.

The RBS Williams F1 Conference Centre, near Wantage in Oxfordshire was host to the CAB Regional Members Meeting and mini-conference event in which three industry speakers detailed their experience and requirements of the supply chain in order to reduce waste and improve efficiency.

Kieren Curry, supply chain manager at Carillion Building, offered a contractor’s perspective of where we are today. Without apportioning blame in any sector he urged a closer working relationship on new projects and called upon CAB and its membership to continue to build closer links with the supply chain.

Neesha Gopal, associate director of Ramboll UK Facade Engineering offered a clear overview of the consultant’s role in a major project by highlighting various projects that her company had recently worked on.

Steve Poole, head of supply chain at Prater, which is one of the leading envelope contractors in the UK, explained some of the challenges they faced during design and installation of building envelopes. Steve called for earlier appointment of major sub-contractors in order to improving value engineering within the design team.

The conference was followed by a visit to the RBS Williams F1 museum and a presentation from Williams outlining their winning formula in F1 together with a F1 Simulator experience.

CAB’s next Regional Members’ meeting and mini conference takes place at the National Maritime Museum, Albert Dock, Liverpool on 31 March 2011.

In the meantime CAB is also introducing a series of regional CAB Breakfast Meetings, which are targeted at regional fabricators, members and non-members, and CAB hopes they will become a good networking opportunity for the industry.
