Aluminium windows transformed

System10 – from Bowater Architectural – is a brand new system that challenges current thinking on manufacture and performance, the company has claimed.

System10 Aluminium is a system that, for all exterior and aesthetic purposes, resembles an aluminium window in terms of the associated sightlines, performance and finishes.

The System10 Aluminium Window achieves levels three to six (essentially future-proofing it) of the Code for Sustainable Homes with an unbeatable – for aluminium – U-value of up to 0.7 W/m2K.

While the window looks like aluminium and feels like aluminium; the ‘core’ interior of the aluminium structure has been entirely replaced with an isomeric thermoplastic endoskeleton that enhances thermal performance, reduces material costs, and makes fabrication and supply easier and much less expensive.

While satisfying specifier requirements, the System10 Aluminium system will also enable non-aluminium fabricators to compete in this sector; and simultaneously allow aluminium fabricators to broaden their ranges with a higher performance, lower cost product.

‘Smart’ 0.7 W/m2K System10 Aluminium options will meet Code Level 6 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, and comprise a 4-12-4-12-4 36mm triple-glazed unit (90% Krypton, Swisspacer V, polyurethane secondary seal), steel reinforcement designed for improved thermal performance, foam-filled chambers plus foam-filled thermal inserts. The Code is the national standard for the sustainable design and construction of new homes and aims to reduce carbon emissions and create homes that are more sustainable. It sets minimum standards for energy and water use at each level and, within England, replaces the EcoHomes scheme, developed by the BRE.

A comprehensive range of window types are available – from casements (internally or externally beaded), tilt and turns, in-line pivots to top swings and residential doors. A U-value of 1.4W/m2K can be achieved with standard 28mm double glazing across the whole range of products on offer. Any U-value between 1.4W/m2K and 0.74W/m2K can be achieved simply by varying standard components. Clip-in, single let beads with concealed glazing gaskets are another novelty for the aluminium window industry.
The System10 aluminium window provides the perfect synergy with the curtain walling system from Bowater Architectural. The window conforms to BS6375 Parts 1 and 2, and BS7950, and all materials are recyclable and re-usable.
