Seniors supports BaleHaus

The BaleHaus at Bath University is fabricated from a straw panel system know as ModCell. The experimental building, which has now been commissioned, is being rigorously tested by the university to determine its suitability for our future construction needs. The small building at Bath locks away almost 30 tonnes of atmospheric CO2 – that’s after the carbon used in its construction has been taken into consideration.

Hybrid, Seniors aluminium timber composite system, has been chosen by ModCell as its construction cycle closely matches that of the ModCell ethic. A window system that is manufactured locally meaning shorter delivery distances to site which save carbon costs. The window also achieves a U-value of 1.2W/m2K.

The BaleHaus@Bath was opened in November by Kevin McCloud who has taken a great deal of interest in this style of construction since ModCell was used on one of the Grand Designs programmes.

Seniors and ModCell worked closely together at Interbuild to produce the Seniors’ Primary School constructed from Hybrid and ModCell. Both companies are now expanding on the concept for EcoBuild in March 2010.
