Keeping St Helens Cool

LouvreSol SP is helping St Helens College to be a ‘cool’ place to be. The campus in the town centre is undergoing some major changes currently to provide new and improved facilities for students.

Part of a £10 million scheme to extend and refurbish the existing buildings a large part of the new development is now open to new and returning students for the new academic year. The new development also provides a sixth form centre, a new training restaurant ‘Colours’, an environmental technology centre and nursery unit.

LouvreSol SP provided vertical brise soliel units to three main blocks of the development which face South East onto Waterloo Street in the town centre. These three curtain wall glazed facades cover the first and second floors only, so the assemblies rely on an interface with the building in order to gain structural stability.

As the brise soliel is hung some 450mm from the glazed facade, two horizontal brise soliel walkways complete with safety wires allows for easy cleaning and maintenance of the facade. The system is manufactured from the companies Lunar range of aerofoil blades and is powder coated to match the colour of the main facade.
